Some views of beautiful Altai

This is Gorno-Altaisk, the only city in the republic and where we live. It has about 70,000 people. Throughout the region the population is approx. 250,000. People live in villages, some rather remote and not so easy to get to.

This is where we live! Isn't it beautiful? You're probably thinking, "where's the snow?" . . . these were taken in summer and fall over the last couple years. Alexey was first in Altai in 2007 and fell in love with the place. How often does someone say to you - 'Honey, I think God wants us to move to Siberia!' Well, if it actually happens at all, once in a lifetime is enough . . and that's how our journey started. After spending a year getting everything ready, we moved here in March 2008. And wow, what a journey it has been!

Even after living in Russia for 5 years, I hadn't even heard of Altai and had no idea there was such a unique place bordering China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. This IS a huge country, after all!

Since we haven't gotten around to blogging until now, and a lot has happened in the last two years, we'll leave you with some scenes for a start. Pictures do say a lot . . . so enjoy the views, and feel free to start planning your visit ; )
